Under the knife...

After a few months of conservative therapy the time had come. The injections and acupuncture as good as they were, were not going to fix what was going on with my knee. Surgery #4 on the "lil guy" (that's Kristina term of endearment for my right leg). I am feeling like a pro at this.

Given the trauma "lil guy" has been thru over the years, the MRI revealed that my knee was in decent overall shape. A small chondral flap under my knee cap was the culprit of all the aggravation over the last several months. Mechanically, the flap was causing patellar edema which was the source of my pain.

In and out in about an hour, Dr. Paul (who rocks) tuned me up - debridement of chondral flap, small sub-patellar micro-fracture, a notchplasty to relieve an ACL impingement and some hardware removal. Compared to the 2 ACL recons that I have had this procedure was a breeze. I can actually hobble around without the crutches while on Vicodin, but will use them for stability for now.

A bit swollen, bruised, 5 incisions and full of some sort of fluid that is squishing around while I do my ROM exercises, which day 1 post op is way past 90 degrees.

Where is the damn goniometer when you need one?

Let the rehab begin.
