Getting up to speed...

Using the analogy of speed limits...I have been stuck in first gear it seems. No chance of me seeing the judge in the last several weeks (note photo) unless it was for illegal parking or something of that nature.

I'll rewind to my first USATF race walking event - DQ'd for crap form...kinda knew it was coming. I have since dialed the speed way back and opted for remedial training a la Dan Pierce....and I have to say he was right. Slow and steady works. But will it get me the volume I need for Ironman?

Next speed bump was my damn lateral epicondylitis, better known as tennis elbow. I've never played tennis or even owned a racket. At any rate, poor form whilst bi-lateral breathing on my long ass swim workouts had manifested itself in an ugly way. I could barely shake someone's hand. One visit to Mark Plaatjes and I was on the mend thanks to some insanely aggressive massage protocol, heat, e-stim & dry needling. I warn you - not for the faint of heart, but damn!

On the sunny side, my bike has been solid. I feel like though since my surgeries some things in my body have changed making another fit evaluation a must...or maybe it was since I tried to adjust my seat and bottle cages that I jacked it up. I think that a few small adjustments may make me (& my left foot) happy again.

As I read this back - form and fit seem to be the prevailing themes. I never really gave them much thought, but clearly they are instrumental in staying healthy. The last few weeks, I've lost my funk, and slowly begun to speed up again. Feeling back on track.
